1. Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See
This is a great book to introduce to very young learners. The language is poetic yet very simple. Bill Martin Jr. does a fantastic job at starting with the usual then moving to open up the imagination of children by introducing a blue horse and so and and then ending the book by coming back to the immediate reality of the classroom. This books serves as a great way to introduce animals and colors to your students, If you have very low beginner level teens you can use this book with them too. Trust me all age groups love picture books, especially in a language they are learning!
2. The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This book is a classic and I always find ways to use it in my classroom. The story of how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly told very simply. The illustrations are beautiful and the language is lucid. This is a great book to not only teach about the transformation of the caterpillar but also to teach colors, days of the week, numbers, singular and plural nouns, names of different foods.
